ABOUT
Black Art Expo
Sankofa Fine Art Plus proudly presents the Black Art Expo, a spirited celebration of Black art and community. Marking Sankofa’s 25th anniversary, the expo makes a triumphant return, at Cuyahoga Community College Eastern Campus. The event will showcase the dynamic talent of Black artists in Cleveland and the breadth of their creativity and artistic impact. The Expo is free and open to the public.
Previously known as the Sankofa Fine Art Expo, which ran from 2001 – 2011, this event was a staple in the Black artists’ community, providing a crucial platform for artistic expression and community engagement. The Black Art Expo continues this legacy, bringing together artists, enthusiasts, and the local community to celebrate and support Black art.
Sankofa
Sankofa Fine Art Plus is a nonprofit community arts organization founded in 1999 by a group of art enthusiasts who shared a passion for African American and ethnic art and artists. Aware of the limited opportunities for ethnic art and artists in mainstream venues, the founders created Sankofa Fine Art Plus to develop opportunities that would create, educate, expose and encourage the distribution of “fine ethnic art” in the Greater Cleveland area.
Sankofa Fine Art Plus develops and advocates for ethnic artists and presents ethnic art as a credible and meaningful art form through community education and collaboration. It is our goal to increase community awareness and appreciation of the rich history and tradition of “fine ethnic art” by creating opportunities that will support emerging and aspiring ethnic artists.
